BWXT is currently seeking a Nuclear Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA “ Ramsey Place location!


The Advanced Technologies (AT) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related systems for internal and external customers. AT Engineering is seeking a Neutronic Design Engineer to assist in the development of these systems.



The Nuclear Engineer will work as part of a high-performing, innovative, and multi-disciplinary team employing an integrated approach for neutronics, thermal hydraulics, mechanical/stress, and safety analysis, to achieve accelerated reactor design development. Source term estimation, shielding, and radiation analysis will also be performed. Job Description/Duties:


  • Participates in the development of novel advanced reactor designs, serving as the lead for core neutronic design.
  • Supports development of core neutronics modeling and simulation methods.
  • Coordinates with interdisciplinary team, providing data/requirements to other disciplines and receiving data/requirements from them.
  • Performs radiation transport simulations for nuclear criticality, radiation shielding analyses, neutron activation, and radiation-induced material impact assessments.


Job Qualifications/Requirements:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or Radiation Health Physics from an ABET-accredited university is required. PHD preferred
  • Experience in reactor physics analysis, radiation transport applications, neutron activation, and radiation shielding.
  • Demonstrable neutronics analysis skills using core design and analysis codes and tools (e.g., MCNP, SCALE).
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to write and deliver high quality technical reports and documentation, including presentations to customers, regulators, and other organizations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
  • Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
