TELEMETRY MONITOR TECHNICIAN I - NIGHTS
Job DescriptionThe Monitor Technician has two subgroups.
A Monitor Technician 1 will maintain the ability and competencies of only one of the two subgroups.
The Telemetry Technician subgroup is a member of the patient care team who functions under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse.
The responsibilities of the Monitor Technician include interpreting heart rhythms, noting irregularities in electronic medical records, ensuring that heart monitors are functioning correctly, and reporting to the medical staff in charge of the patients.
Under supervision the Monitor Technician is responsible for the placement and scanning of Holter and event monitors, analysis of ECG rhythms and documentation.
Successful Monitor Technicians should have excellent analytical and technical skills, detail-oriented, as well as adaptability to change based on evidence-based practice.
The Virtual Sitter/Runner subgroup is a member of the patient care team who functions under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
The responsibilities of the Virtual Sitter include the visual and auditory camera monitoring of appropriate patients, noting abnormal and/or unsafe patient behavior, utilizing verbal interventions to redirect patients, and utilizing stat alarms and notifying clinical staff of unsafe patient behaviors.
The responsibilities of the runner include performing 12 lead EKGs, troubleshooting telemetry monitors, troubleshooting virtual sitter cameras, delivery and pickup of virtual sitter cameras for patient admission and discharge respectively, and provide general support for the monitor technicians and virtual sitters at LGH.
Successful Virtual sitters/Runners should have excellent analytical and technical skills, detail oriented, as well as adaptability to change based on evidence-based practice.
