BWXT's Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.
Advanced Technologies is currently seeking a Transuranic Materials Processing Engineer to be part of a team assisting multiple nuclear development projects at its Advanced Technologies research and development organization.
The engineer will be responsible for identifying material solutions based on design requirements, evaluating the manufacturing and technology readiness (MRL/TRL) for those materials, and advising on sourcing, development and production pathways.

Job Description / Duties:
Operator for processing of uranium and transuranic materials.
Point of contact for assigned processing areas.
Generate and follow work procedures.
Interface with nuclear, mechanical, and electrical engineers on multi-disciplinary development projects.
Assist in generation and revision of area operating procedures (AOPs) and technical procedures (TPs) for the assigned processing areas.
Supports installation and on-site testing of equipment.
Provide assistance with analyzing and resolving manufacturing issues.
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
Minimum 6 years of relevant radiological experience OR a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
an Associate's degree in a related field (such as Machine Tool and Quality, Chemistry, Physics, or Materials Science).
Strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance to all codes and standards.
Must be a U.
S.
citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.
S.
Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
Preferred Experience Experience in safely designing and operating facilities to overcome radioactive handling hazards of radioactive materials.
Experience working in a radiologically controlled environment.
Familiarity with glovebox operations is preferred.
Familiarity with laboratory methods and interpretation of results.
Proficient with various metallographic operations including sample preparation.
Experience with dimensional inspection techniques and/or familiarity with interpretation of dimensional data -optical comparator and/or CNC machines - is a plus.
Strong understanding in the process of uranium, plutonium, or other transuranic compounds.
Strong understanding of ceramics processing.
United States ELT preferred.
Radiation Control Technician Qualification School (RCTQS) preferred.
NAVSEA Metallographer Qualification.
