BWXT's Nuclear Operations Group - Lynchburg is currently seeking an Industrial Hygienist for its Industrial Health & Safety Unit Lynchburg, VA location!As the Industrial Hygienist, you will coordinate and facilitate the industrial hygiene program for the site, including developing, designing, and implementing appropriate strategies to mitigate chemical exposures to plant personnel as well as ensure chemical specific surveys and assessments are conducted to maintain regulatory compliance.
You will also plan and conduct program reviews performing technical evaluations associated with new facility equipment and modifications, conducting routine compliance audits, inspections, and assessments of existing plant conditions.
These technical evaluations will include risk assessments and Process Hazard Analysis methodologies such as Event Tree Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, or What-If assessments.
Essential Functions/
Responsibilities:
Evaluates facility modifications to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Provides technical direction in the development of industrial hygiene and safety procedures.
Conducts studies and surveys on general plant safety and facility needs as required by OSHA regulations and keeping with established safe work practices.
Writes reports, technical documents and compliance reviews, and initiates appropriate corrective actions and improvement suggestions to mitigate and abate regulatory deficiencies.
Facilitates and oversees the Hearing Conservation Program and other established chemical monitoring programs.
Collaborates across facility departments to ensure equipment and processes are being maintained and hazardous conditions are corrected.
Facilitates compliance programs to ensure all Federal and State Safety and Health Regulations are maintained.
Participates in Emergency Team training exercises and facility drills and emergency events.
Prepares and issues written and verbal reports to management summarizing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
Provides technical support to line management regarding the implementation of company procedures and safety requirements and principles.
Manages and maintains industrial equipment and associated software.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required
Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an engineering/science field is required.
Preference given to candidates with Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Safety degrees.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Preference given to candidates who have experience in an industrial setting.
Must have working knowledge of OSHA 29CFR1910 General Industry Regulations and Standards as well as ANSI and ACGIH standards.
Must possess demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain Industrial Hygiene Programs, equipment, and initiatives, including development and execution of training, writing procedures, and conducting inspections and exposure assessments.
Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and successfully resolve conflict.
Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
Must have demonstrable knowledge of regulatory compliance and understand the importance of maintaining accurate documentation.
Must be able to maintain confidential/personal information and materials.
Must be a U.
S.
citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.
S.
Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Current CIH certification is preferred.
