The Custodian is responsible for maintaining and caring for all LU Facilities, on and off campus.
The areas of responsibility of a Custodian are, but are not limited to cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash collection, removal, & disposal.
Wiping, dusting, and cleaning of furniture.
The Custodian is to maintain, provide and assure an esthetically pleasing, clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a variety of spaces including lobbies, hallways, dorms, bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, classrooms, offices, food service areas, and other public event areas.
Any other duties as assigned.
Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.
As essential personnel:
you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean-up required because of severe weather incidents.
Performs snow removal activities as assigned.
Such as snow and ice removal from entrance ways and sidewalks.
Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year.
Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.

Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.

Works with 2-3 employees.
4.
Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of all bathroom facilities, including toilets, sinks and showers.
Uses brooms, mop, buckets, vacuum cleaners and other related cleaning equipment.
5.
Cleaning of mirrors, windows, and glass doors as needed.
6.
Provides custodial services before, during, and after athletic and other special events.
7.
General outdoor services and maintenance such as sweeping entry areas and cleaning glass doors at entrances.
8.
Collects trash and recyclable materials from all facilities, for collection, removal, and disposal of.
9.
Supports and assists with established recycling efforts.
10.
Supports urgent and situation-specific custodial needs.
Attend to unsafe conditions such as mopping up spills and responding to calls for clean-up of body fluids in accordance with the OSHA standard for exposure control to blood borne pathogens.
11.
Attend and complete require safety training per university requirements.
12.
Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of an Custodian and while operating related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed shoe , respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
13.
Reports any unsafe conditions or incidents of suspicious activity or persons.
As Well as, any maintenance repair issues to appropriate area Supervisor.
14.
Provide punctual and reliable services before, during, and after events as scheduled, including irregular shifts that may include nights, days, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
15.
Monitors lobbies, and service restrooms during events; ensuring the highest level of cleanliness, patron satisfaction and event success.
16.
Use proper supplies to perform daily tasks and report when additional supplies are needed.
17.
Operates and maintains powered and manual equipment.
18.
Safe and proper use of cleaning agents.
Maintains awareness and knowledge of all health and safety regulations and procedures pertaining to Custodial operations; follows LU and OSHA health and safety rules, procedures and standards.
19.
Undertakes occasional seasonal tasks such as shoveling snow from sidewalk.
20.
Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in Custodial cleaning events.
21.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
23.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and ExperienceThis position requires a high school diploma or a GED.
Well-developed communications skills.
Experience with residential, and/or commercial/ industrial cleaning (methods and safety) field is preferred.
Working knowledge of safe and efficient operation of electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
Must be detailed oriented, strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills.

Physical and Sensory Abilities Occasionally required to travel to local, on and off campus locations.
Able to walk and stand on feet for an 8-hour period.
Able to physically perform all essential custodial functions for an entire workday.
Able to bend, crouch, kneel, and work on hands and knees, when necessary.
Able to walk up and down stairs.
Must be able to lift to 50
pounds and perform duties of Custodial cleaning craft.
Able to perform repetitive motions including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing.
Able to operate cleaning and floor machines safely and properly.
Able to work with arms lifted overhead.
Able to work in dusty conditions.
Vision adequate to see dust, debris, and moisture on floors and other surfaces.
Able to work without allergies or sensitivities to cleaning agents, odors, and products used by the Custodial department.
Able to clean and sanitize areas when sewage backs up into a facility, or when bodily fluid/ excrement is present.
Able to work efficiently and competently individuals or as part of a team.
Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to perform physically demanding work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, and standing, walking, and driving.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork EnvironmentThe working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled indoor setting.
It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.
All waste and recyclable materials must be removed from the facilities and carried to exterior waste receptables throughout the day, regardless of weather conditions.
On occasion, employees must be able and willing to work in exterior, non-climate-controlled settings, on occasion, such as athletic/ special events and special projects.
Employees routinely clean demolition and construction areas.
These areas are often very dusty and not climate controlled.
Strong odors are often present from paint, carpet, or other construction products.
Employees can expect to have to work on slippery floor surfaces.
Driving RequirementsUse of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
