Custodian I - 3rd Shift

The Custodian I is responsible for maintaining and caring for all LU Facilities, on and off campus.
The areas of responsibility of a Custodian I are, but not limited to cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash collection, removal & disposal.
Wiping, dusting, and cleaning of furniture.
The Custodian I is to maintain, provide and assure an aesthetically pleasing, clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a variety of spaces including lobbies, hallways, dorms, bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, classrooms, offices, food service areas, and other public event areas.
Any other duties as assigned.
Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities1.
As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents.
Custodians are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.

Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.

May be assigned to work independently or with 2-3 other employees.
4.
Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of all bathroom facilities, including floors, toilets, walls, partitions, sinks and showers.
Uses brooms, mop, buckets, vacuum cleaners, and other related cleaning equipment.
5.
Cleans mirrors, windows, and glass doors as needed.
6.
Performs daily cleaning of all interior facility spaces, such as offices, halls, classrooms, labs, food service areas, and common areas.
7.
Provides custodial services before, during, and after athletic and other special events.
8.
General outdoor services and maintenance such as sweeping entry areas and cleaning glass doors at entrances.
9.
Collects trash and recyclable materials from all facilities, for collection, removal, and disposal.
10.
Supports and assists with established recycling efforts.
11.
Supports urgent and situation-specific custodial needs.
12.
Attend to unsafe conditions such as mopping up spills and responding to calls for clean-up of body fluids in accordance with the OSHA standard for exposure control to blood borne pathogens.
13.
Attend and complete required safety training per university requirements.
14.
Wear, use, and maintain proper personal protective equipment.
15.
Reports any unsafe conditions or incidents of suspicious activity or persons.
As well as any maintenance repair issues to appropriate area supervisor.
16.
Provide punctual and reliable services before, during and after events as scheduled, including irregular shifts that may include nights, days, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
17.
Monitors lobbies, floors, and services restrooms during events; ensuring the highest level of cleanliness, patron satisfaction and event success.
18.
Use proper supplies to perform daily tasks and report when additional supplies are needed.
19.
Operates and maintains powered and manual equipment.
20.
Safe and proper use of cleaning agents.
Maintains awareness and knowledge of all health and safety regulations and procedures pertaining to custodial operations; follows LU and OSHA health and safety rules, procedures, and standards.
21.
Undertakes occasional seasonal tasks such as shoveling snow from the sidewalk.
22.
Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in Custodial cleaning events.
23.
All other duties as assigned.
24.
Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, process, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.

Qualifications, Credentials, and CompetenciesThis position requires a high school degree or GED.
Minimum of 1
years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
State Driver's license and insurable with company's agent.
Well-developed communications skills.
Experience with residential, and/ or commercial/ industrial cleaning (methods and safety) field is preferred.
Working knowledge of safe and efficient operation of electrically, propane powered, and manual cleaning equipment.
Must be able to understand and follow directions, and work under limited Supervision.
Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude, clean and professional appearance.
Must be courteous, detailed oriented.
Self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills.
Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals.
Urgency to grow and improve.
Must be able to lift up to 50
pounds and perform duties of the Custodial trade in typical Virginia Climate and able to perform repetitive motion including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing.
Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.
Must be detailed oriented, strong organizational skills and well-developed communications skills.
Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
